From HMI to e-commerce with three clicks
Ronchi
When machinery is down, it is important to get an immediate diagnosis and directly intervene on the component. The web portal can connect the various items of information for the use and maintenance of the machine and bring users to the solution to the problem through just a few clicks.
Client
Global leader in designing and manufacturing packaging machines.
Where we started
Machinery instruction manuals were made with Microsoft Office. As they were not modular, it was impossible to manage variants of the machine. Their long-windedness resulted in extremely high translation costs. At times, the manual was so generic that it didn’t fully match the final machine. The safety information was not compliant with regulations.
Activities performed
- Supporting the technology partner in managing the entire CMS system migration, training and configuration project
- Preparation of the entire portal, PDF and HTML templates, document types (DTD for XML DITA)
- Standardization of content according to Directives and Standards, complete redesign and editing of the first instruction manuals, editing of the style guide, creation of the terminology database, translation into seven languages according to ISO 17100
- Training and mentoring of writers
Most noticeable results
- Reduced word volumes to be translated by 47% through consistent use of 3D images and animations and simplified technical writing rules
- Instant navigation from HMI error message to e-commerce via error description, procedure to replace component to interactive spare parts catalog
- Easy access to content directly on the HMI and on maintainers' computers
